Turfgrass Council Announces 2007 Leadership
Jeffrey L. Fry, CGCS, the superintendent
at Lebanon Country Club, Lebanon, PA,
has been elected president of the Pennsylvania
Turfgrass Council (PTC) for 2007. Fry
is in his first term as president,
having been a member of the board for
many years. His predecessor, John Chassard
of Lehigh Country Club, Allentown,
PA assumes the role of Immediate Past
President.
Vice President for 2007
is Thomas R. Bettle, Birdsfoot Golf
Club, Freeport, PA, and Michael Zedreck,
CGCS, of the Pittsburgh Field Club, Pittsburgh, PA is the new Secretary-Treasurer.
Fry said that in his new position with
the Board he will continue to work
to raise awareness of PTC’s
role in supporting Penn State’s turfgrass program and its important
series of educational programs, which
includes major conferences in eastern,
western and northeastern Pennsylvania
each year.
Newly elected to the Board
are Greg Fantuzzi, Carlisle Country
Club, Carlisle, PA, and Tony Leonard,
Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia,
PA. The Board also includes Darrin
Batisky, Chartiers Country Club, Pittsburgh,
PA; Mark DelSanto, Syngenta Professional
Products, Glenmoore, PA; James H. Loke,
CGCS, Bent Creek Country Club, Lititz,
PA; Scott A. Schukraft, Huntsville
Golf Club, Shavertown, PA; Matt Shaffer,
Merion Golf Club, Ardmore, PA; and
Samuel Stimmel, Profile Products, LLC,
Washington, PA.
With the election of
the new board those who have completed
their service are Daniel A. Douglas,
Reading Phillies Baseball Club, Reading,
PA and Richard Pagett, Centre Hills
Country Club, State College, PA.
The
Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council promotes
professionalism in all facets of the
turfgrass industry by providing educational
opportunities, grants and support for
education and research projects, encouraging
future industry leadership through
scholarship and awards, and promoting
interaction with government agencies,
private institutions and the general
public.
Members include golf course
superintendents, owners/operators of
lawn care services, nurserymen, landscapers,
sod growers, sports field managers
and industrial representatives. For
