PTRI Announces New Board of Trustees
Jerred D. Golden, CGCS, has been re-elected
chair of the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Research,
Inc. (PTRI) for 2007. Golden is Director of Grounds of Hershey’s
Mill Golf Club and Landscape Company, West Chester, and serves as
chair of PTRI’s “Growing the Game” Campaign designed
to raise funds for Penn State’s ongoing turfgrass research
and education. Golden is also Past President of the Pennsylvania
Turfgrass Council.
Other officers will also continue for
a second term. They are Vice-Chair - Ronald Moehler, a Partner
in Vance Wright Adams and Associates, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, and
Secretary-Treasurer – Mark
D. Kuhns, CGCS, Director of Grounds at Baltusrol Golf Club, Springfield,
NJ.
Newly elected to join the Board of
Trustees in 2007 is Samuel Stimmel from Profile Products in Washington,
PA.
The Board of Trustees is completed
by Darrin Batisky, Chartiers Country Club, Pittsburgh, PA; Thomas
R. Bettle, Birdsfoot Golf Club, Freeport, PA; Daniel B. Burton
from Lititz, PA representing the Golf Association of Philadelphia;
John A. Chassard, Lehigh Country Club, Allentown, PA; Jeffrey
L. Fry, CGCS Lebanon Country Club, Lebanon, PA; James H. Loke,
CGCS, Bent Creek Country Club, Lititz, PA; Gregory A. Nye, Intercollegiate
Athletics at Penn State University, University Park, PA; Scott
A. Schukraft, Huntsville Golf Club, Shavertown; Matt Shaffer,
Merion Golf Club, Ardmore; and Stephen M. Smith from the Board
of Directors at Merion Golf Club.
PTRI’s “Growing the Game” $1,000,000
campaign goal will create an endowment to support Penn State’s
Center for Turfgrass Science. The campaign involves special events,
as well as soliciting gifts and pledges. A broad volunteer network
is seeking annual support from country clubs and their members, businesses
and individuals associated with the turfgrass industry, Penn State
alumni, from golfers, and from other people who enjoy lawns, athletic
fields and environmentally friendly landscapes.
PTRI was established
by the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council
(PTC), which has contributed more than
$2,000,000 to support Penn State’s research since
1955. The Pennsylvania Turfgrass Research,
